Troubleshooting Google Chat Member Admin

Kudos is showing random images I don't want (Google Spaces)

Kudos is showing random images I don’t want (Google Spaces)

In Google Chat Spaces, kudos messages sometimes show preview images or thumbnails you did not intend — for example, generic link previews or visuals pulled from metadata. That behavior comes from how Google Spaces renders rich content, not from you attaching a photo to every kudos.

Quick check

  • Compare with other platforms — If Slack or Discord shows text-only kudos but Google Spaces adds imagery, the difference is usually client-side rendering.
  • Disable link previews in Space settings — When your admin allows it, turn off automatic link previews for the space (Google Chat setting, not Dailybot).
  • Shorten URLs or use plain text — If a kudos message includes a URL, Google may fetch a preview image; remove the URL if previews are unwanted.
  • Update Google Chat — Ensure the desktop or mobile client is current; rendering quirks sometimes clear after updates.
  • Document for your team — So people know previews are cosmetic, not wrong kudos content.

Common causes and fixes

Google Spaces rich previews

Google Chat may attach link unfurling or card imagery to messages that contain URLs, mentions, or structured payloads. Dailybot sends kudos in a format the platform interprets; Spaces can still choose to show an image panel. That is similar to how some email clients show article thumbnails for plain links.

Mitigation: Avoid pasting external links inside the kudos body when previews bother your team. Ask a Workspace admin whether link preview policies can be tightened for sensitive spaces.

Workspace or org image policies

Some organizations enforce default images or branding on bots. If every bot message shows the same corner avatar, that is normal. If large inline images appear, focus on link preview settings first.

How to disable or reduce images

Because the control lives in Google Chat:

  1. Open the Space settings (as a Space manager or according to your policy).
  2. Look for options related to Link previews, Apps, or Attachments — exact labels depend on your Google edition.
  3. If no toggle exists, ask your Google admin to review Chat app policies for the OU that owns the Space.

Dailybot may add settings over time to send plainer cards; check product updates if your organization tracks CORE-475.

If none of this worked

Contact Dailybot support with:

  • Space type (named Space, DM, etc.)
  • Example message or screenshot (redact personal data)
  • Whether a URL was included in the kudos

We can confirm expected behavior and log feedback for Google-specific rendering.
